Recently I began the process of making an audio book of The Mind Whisperer. Steve Lanning, my good friend and audio/video mentor, and I were discussing the project. I told Steve about a quote that attracted me that described The Freedom Step. The fourteenth century Persian poet and philosopher, Hafiz said, “I am a hole in a flute that the Christ’s breath moves through - listen to this music.”

 

Flute music appeals to me as a spiritual expression of Spirit’s breath. So, I was thinking about how the flute could be introduced into the audio projects of The Freedom Step.

 

One morning, my friend Katie Dexter and I were meditating. Katie asked me, “Where is that music coming from?” I then took notice of Native American flute music coming from the parking lot. I knew that this was what I was seeking.

 

A man was listening to a CD in his truck. When I asked him about it, he told me that it is called “Spirit Flute.” He didn’t know the performer. He told me that he had bought it at a store called A Trading Post in Lakeside, California. I contacted Lisbet. She and her husband Robert own A Trading Post. There they sell mostly Native American artifacts and merchandise. She did not have the CD and thought it may not be available.

 

She told me that her friend, Eddie Lone Wolf is a really talented flutist. I contacted Eddie. Lisbet and Robert opened their store to us and we did a test recording in their back room. What you can find on the site if you hit the “Audio” button is what we recorded that day. This is the first take amid the ambient noise of the neighborhood and the store. We liked the first take.

 

This is now the introduction music for the audio book and the beginning of what I hope to be a long relationship with Eddie and his extraordinary spirit. Thanks, Lisbet and Robert. As always, my thanks go out to Steve Lanning for the sounds and Steve Oliver for the website work.

Today, I finished reading The Mind Whisperer into an audio recorder. My dear and generous friend, Steve Lanning tells me that he will edit the recording into a book on MP3. I know that he will do that.

Steve is the guy who literally gave me a DVD of my comedy and music show last year. he edited the whole thing, a three-camera shoot and produced a wonderful little DVD for me to use to promote my entertainment efforts.

Steve continues to give to me. I continue to be most grateful and trust that some day I can return the generosity.

In the meantime, I'm excited to hear how the book sounds.

The 501c3 corporation is now being formed. Another friend, Katie Dexter, my good buddy for twenty years, has taken the task upon herself to make the non-profit corporation happen.

The Freedom Step and I are blessed indeed.

Well, I've started reading The Mind Whisperer into a Sony mp3 recorder. Instead of having to go to a sound studio, I just sit on the floor of a quiet bedroom and read into a lav microphone sitting next to a recorder that is about the size of two matchbooks.

Aint technology grand?

Now i just have to decide what format the audio book goes out on.

I'm just beginning to learn...

A colleague, Mary Ann E., sent me a link to a NY Times June third article, “Dark, Perhaps Forever.” (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/03/science/03dark.html)

One quote from the article says, “Having been impelled apart by the force of the Big Bang, the galaxies, in defiance of cosmic gravity, are picking up speed on a dash toward eternity.” They talk about the 13.7 billion years since the bang. Science has discovered lots of stuff about dark matter and dark energy and has postulated, as did Einstein, a great deal about what’s going on in this expansion. NASA’s going to drop $600 million on a “J-dem for Joint Dark Energy Mission” to find out why this is going on. Scientists say the six hundred mil is less than half what is needed. Indeed!

Perhaps when I consider from my very limited understanding of or interest in science that the following may be as true as all that other stuff, I can again put Toby away and go back home to Pure Awareness.

Everything in the universe oscillates. The expansion of the unmanifested into the manifested 13.7 billion years ago has continued. Science says that, for whatever reason, the expansion is accelerating and the manifested energy continues to differentiate. Ultimately, this expansion must cease. It is the never-ending expansion and contraction of all manifested energy (breath, heartbeat, sound, all vibrational energy). The expansion will probably then reverse and the manifested perhaps billions of years later will return to the unmanifested from which it came, only to begin again (some mystery, no?). We may now be involved in the fifteen billionth such expansion and contraction, with billions more to follow.

 

Who knows (science doesn’t) and who cares (not I)? It does not have much ultimate importance NOW. Now I do not have to think, just remember to breathe just like the universe.

Yesterday, a woman friend who bought The Mind Whisperer called me with some exciting news. "Marty," Susan said, "today I was sitting in my back yard and I experienced spontaneous  pure awareness. This condition lasted for about five minutes. I have never experienced anything like that in my life."

 

Susan attributes that event to her practicing The Freedom Step program as presented in the book. I am so grateful for Susan relating that experience to me. I have had such occurances. Most of mine were of the "educational" variety. It thrills me when folks talk to me about the thrill they get from spontaneous contacts with Spirit.

This morning, my dear friend, Doug Starks (one of the world's great entertainers) called me to tell me this. "I'm reading your book, man, and I love you all over again."

I just have to tell somebody about this wonderful gift that Doug gave me. I cannot think of a better message for anyone...I love you all over again.

My dear friend, fellow author and writing coach, Judy Reeves just sent an email to me to announce that she has had time to scan through the book but not to read it. She wrote:

"I wish you every blessing with this book, Marty. And what it brings 

to the world. A book that has BREATHE on every other page is just 

what we need, if we never get beyond that. But we will."

I am deeply grateful to Judy for a number of reasons. I just do not resonate that we need to get beyond BREATHE.

These past two days, Steve Oliver (circatree.com) the web creator and webmaster for this site, performed some amazin' transformations and helped me prepare for the first public session event next month.

Things are picking up a real head of steam. Book sales (out of the back of my car) are good. People consistently like it. Some are buying multiple copies for family members

I experience a great deal of joy as I see this positive results from The Freedom Step and the book.

Yesterday, a good life-long friend of mine left me a voice mail: “I looooove your book!” of course, that does a great deal for my ego, Toby. Toby immediately gets involved. See, I told you the book was good. See how talented you are? See…HUSH! I called Carolyn to thank her for her enthusiastic message. In the discussion that followed, Carolyn said, “You are just talking to me in the book. You are not asking me to believe in anything. You are not trying to persuade me to think like you. The book is a no-brainer.” I could have hired a pr firm and we could have searched far and wide for a slogan for the book. I cannot imagine that we would have stumbled on one better than, “The Mind Whisperer. It’s a no-brainer." Thanks, Carolyn
