Last Saturday, I attended a meeting of the San Diego chapter of The American Society of Dowsers. I had accepted an invitation to speak about The Freedom Step at this scheduled meeting. I knew little about dowsing prior to the event. While my family had lived for years in a remote area of the county, I was only peripherally aware of the existence and work of "water witches." I knew that several people drilled successful wells after consulting professional dowsers.

Until recently, I gave no serious consideration to dowsing. Because of the invitation to speak, I went on-line and looked into the subject. I found the theory of dowsing to parallel the theory of muscle testing that we often use in The Freedom Step. Muscle testing is a tool that may assist us in accessing intuition. As many Freedom Step participants know, we come to rely upon our intuition as the voice of Spirit.

This applies to Step Four: Being Certain: Waiting for Clarity, Accessing Intuition. Dowsing is more than locating water using a rod or forked stick. Dowsing, for me is another method of accessing Universal Intent. By that, I mean, in brief, that dowsers use various tools (sticks, pendulums, bobbers, rods, etc.) to ask Spirit (their own personal spiritual guides) for the answer to questions. Dowsing is an ancient practice of aligning with the energy of all creation and beyond.

I attended the meeting with my disbelief intact. Inez Lindsey, the woman who had invited me began by conducting a dowsing lesson for the dozen or so attendees. During this short "Introduction to Dowsing" lesson, I moved in and out of my skepticism and experienced moments when I was convinced that, "This stuff works!" I am so grateful for that experience.
