Last year, Marnie Pehrson (webmaster@ideamarketers.com) helped me begin writing articles for various E-magazines. IdeaMarketers was the first. Since we met, Marnie has gifted me with a rather continuous stream of her wisdom, spirituality, marketing advice and her awesome energy.
Last Thursday morning her newsletter introduced me to a song by the amazing Nora Jones titled "One Flight Down." Marnie referred to her experience of the song as her "Aha Moment of the Week"
She invited her addressees to give her our take on the song. What follows are the link to the song and the lyrics. Below, I will chat a bit about Marnie's and my viewpoints, how Nora affected us.

One flight down
There's a song on low
And your mind just picked up on the sound
Now you know you're wrong
Because it drifts like smoke
And it's been there playing all along
Now you know
Now you know
The reeds and brass have been weaving
Leading into a single note
In this place
Where your arms unfold
Here at least you see your ancient face
Now you know
Now you know
The cadence rolls in broken
Plays it over and then goes
One flight down
There's a song on low
And it's been there playing all along
Now you know
Now you know
Marnie said,
"I love the soulful voice and melodies of Norah Jones. Monday was the first time I'd heard her recording of "One F1ight Down." At a glance, you look at the words and say, "Well what in the world is that about? Is it just about a song playing in the apartment downstairs?" As I pondered it more, I realized just how incredibly profound it is. It truly is a metaphor for how our beliefs work ... how they percolate in our subconscious mind influencing our thoughts, actions, and outcomes
My take on it was just a bit different, I think. My mind, I call it Toby, picks up on a sound from one flight down. I see that "location" as my essential nature, my soul, Pure Awareness, Spirit.
The song has been playing on low all along. By the time Toby has interpreted it, it has become an ego-driven song. The point is that all along,
The reeds and brass have been weaving
Leading into a single note
There is but one note...one spirit...one life...One! Toby does not resonate with that.
Now you know you're wrong
Go home, Toby...one flight down. Be still.
In this place
Where your arms unfold
Here at least you see your ancient face
In my soul
There's a song on low
And it's been there playing all along
Now you know
Now you know
Thanks, Marnie. Thanks, Nora. Hush, Toby. Now I know!
